Appropriate assessment for the construction of a reservoir at Wied Ghollieqa

AIS Environmental Ltd. prepared this study in connection to the proposed construction of a soak away type reservoir at Wied Ghollieqa in Gzira. This study was requested in view of the potential impacts on the valley which is designated as a Special Area of Conservation of national importance and a bird sanctuary. It involved a multi-seasonal ecological study to characterise the habitats and species in the area, a description of the potential impacts and recommendations for mitigation measures and alternatives.

 

Onshore Wind Farm at Hal Far Industrial Zone

OnShoreWindfarmThe development of a wind farm consisting of 5 turbines has been proposed at Hal Far industrial estate. AIS Environmental Ltd. carried out this project to identify bat and bird species which inhabit and use the designated SPA and SAC areas around the area of the proposed development. This includes land and sea birds listed in the Birds Directive. Areas and habitats of importance during any aspect of the lifecycle of the mentioned birds found within the area of influence of the wind farm were also identified. Bat species and their habitats were also investigated.

This was followed by an assessment of the predicted impacts on key bird and bat species and their habitats within the area of influence during construction and operation of the proposed development.
