At this time and age, more people are living in urban areas than in rural areas. Urban sprawl is re-shaping landscapes and affecting people's quality of life and te environment as never before. Urban areas act as engines for progress, often driving much of culture, education, technological achievements and innovations. However, today's trend to new low-density approaches to urban development results in increased consumption of energy, resources, transport and land, thereby raising greenhouse emissions and air and noise pollution.

This project involves the construction of a 6,000m2 car park outside the Cittadella and the stabilisation of adjacent slopes. The aim of this project is to improve the accessibility and parking facilities in order to attract further visitors to this historical attraction, to the benefit of its religious, cultural and commercial establishments. Since this project is in the vicinity of very important cultural and ecological sites in an urbanized area, AIS Environmental Ltd. conducted extensive studies on the impacts of the project. This included assessment of the visual and landscape impact and impacts on the historical and cultural heritage, ecology, geology and hydrology, noise and vibration, traffic and waste management. AIS Environmental also provided energy conservation recommendations on any exterior lighting. |

MCAST is an institution which provides universally accessible vocational and professional education and training. In order to reach the goals set by the Lisbon Agenda on Education and Training, MCAST aims to grow further and intends to bring all of its institutes spread across Malta onto one main campus at Paola, AIS Environmental have successfully concluded the EIS for the proposed MCAST Masterplan.
The Masterplan has to cater for the increases in students and staff population to the College. Since the site is located within a densely urbanised area, this project necessitated the assessment of the impacts on the air quality, noise and vibration, landscape and visual amenity, archaeology and cultural sites, geology, and waste management. A social impact assessment was also conducted since this development is significant in providing economic and social regeneration within the local area. |

AIS Environmental Ltd. has been entrusted the studies for an environment impact assessment for a proposed mixed use development in Paola and development of new high quality residential, civic, commercial amenities and sports facilities. This large scale project being proposed at the centre of a residential area in Paola represents an opportunity for much needed re-development of an area. AIS Environmental Ltd. has undertaken various studies to assess the likely impacts of such a project in a typically densely populated urban environment, and through input from its expert consultants, has been able to identify the necessary mitigation measures that reduce the impact of a large scale construction project on Paola’s residents and their environment. |
